Philanthropy
Just as every other Alpha Gam chapter philanthropy is something that Gamma Lambda is always focusing on. Coming up soon we have two major philanthropy events to help support JDRF. This Friday on campus we are hosting a powder puff football tournament and are recruiting teams to sign up and are donating all proceeds to JDRF. So far it is going pretty well but we are having a bit of a hard time getting as much participation as we were hoping for. Another philanthropy event we are participating in next weekend is JDRF Gala at the Jefferson in Richmond Virginia. Gamma Lambdas also volunteered at this same event last year and it was such an incredible time. The Gala raises so much money for JDRF and it is such a good time to give back and meet people in different situations. Through our local JDRF chapter we participate in other events such as walks also. Even though we do volunteer a lot we have been trying to find a way to raise money as well. That was our hope with powder puff but it doesn't seem like we are going to raise as much money as we were hoping. We are hoping to make this an annual event as long as we can increase participation. Any other good philanthropy event ideas?

hmmm... good philanthropy ideas are always tough to come up with. What about doing some off campus fund raisers in the areas of VA that have a high concentration of alumni.
ReplyDeleteFor example, tidewater, richmond and NOVA are probably your best bets. You could rent a banquet room of a hotel and do a brunch for the alum and get chapter donations and do raffles for walk shirts/letters/ red front stuff. We do these all the time for high school guidance counselors and they are really easy to set up!
If you guys ever do fundraisers (like selling things) maybe you could see if alum want to help too- i could easily sell some fundraising effort in my office and im sure most other ppl could send around something to their co-workers as well kind of like girl scout cookies!
Hey what about a philanthropy dinner during alumni weekend? Invite all the alums and have a nice dinner in the Grand Dining room with a cash bar and some dancing and charge like $150 a couple and raise money that way! I would totally pay to have a nice dinner with all the sisters! I think alot of other people would donate too!
ReplyDeleteTheta Nu has been very successful with philanthropy efforts through creative fundraising. Last year these included "Denim for Diabetes", a charity designer denim sale with brands like 7 for all mankind, citizen's, joe's, etc., for 40-65% off, and "So You Think You Can Dance," a campus-wide dance competition. Our new member class did the opening number and we had about 9 teams and individuals competing. The event raised a decent amount of money, especially with a raffle going on, but putting on such a big event can be a huge investment before you'll see the profit.
ReplyDeleteMy question to you all is about good philanthropy ideas for formal recruitment. This year philanthropy round is the first night so we're looking for an activity that doesn't take too long, isn't TOO involved, yet isn't boring or unmemorable. Any ideas?
